Mrs.Speakman is a long-time teacher at White Pine Middle School, who is originally from Minnesota. She lived in Guatemala, Colorado, and Alaska before settling in Ely. She earned her bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota and currently teaches 8th-grade English Language Arts, Leadership, and Spanish. In addition to teaching for the school district, Mrs.Speakman is a mentor and a team leader. In the summer she assists in the management and running of a commercial salmon fishing tender with her family in Kodiak, Alaska. In her spare time, she enjoys both alpine, back-country, and cross-country skiing, mountain biking, hiking, practicing yoga, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
